Fruit forward and lush in style like California, but very Cote du Rhône in aromatics and mouthfeel. On the palate, a flavor profile of jammy blackberries and black cherries, smoked meats, red cracked pepper corns closing with hints of tapenade. Sensational length on the palate.

"Jeff Cohn produces a number of proprietary wines, and I tasted three of his current releases The 2013 Smoke & Mirrors is a Rhône Valley-inspired blend of 37% Zinfandel, 25% Petite Sirah, 24% Syrah, and the rest smaller quantities of Alicante Bouschet and Grenache, coming from multiple AVAs in California ranging from Amador and Paso Robles to Napa and Sonoma. This is one of the larger cuvees with a production of over 2,400 cs. A terrific bargain at $25, This seriously endowed, juicy, seductive style of wine if Jeff Cohn's version of a high-end Côte du Rhône. Plenty of ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit, some beef blood and grilled meats along with Provencal herbs, spice, and licorice are all present in this meaty, medium to full-bodied lusty wine. Drink this seductive wine over the next 3-4 years for its exuberant fruit."

"A blend of mostly Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, with smaller amounts of Grenache and Alicante Bouschet, Cohn's 2013 Smoke and Mirrors (2,100 cases) tastes like a top flight Côtes du Rhône with its brambly berry fruits, licorice, crushed rock and hints of spring flowers. Fresh, lively, pure and quaffably good, yet also with plenty of class and first rate purity, it's a terrific, beautifully made, medium-bodied, fruit-loaded red to buy by the case and enjoy over the coming 3-4 years."
From the finest sources in Napa, Paso Robles, Sonoma, and Amador Counties.
