As this vineyard starts to grow in age, I find the wines to continue to grow deeper in the purity of fruit. Aromatics and flavors of black mission fig, fruitcake, sage, rosemary, dark chocolate, and lavender are reminiscent more to a wine from the Norther Rhône. Insanely rich and off the charts, this wine is concentrated from the entry to the midpalate and beautiful long finish.
91 Pts Wine Advocate Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Zinfandel Iron Hill Vineyard reveals notes of baked plums, spice cake, sandalwood and rose hip tea with an undercurrent of mincemeat pie, dried herbs and star anise. Full-bodied and generously fruited in the mouth, the rich dried berry layers are well-framed by a lively backbone and chewy texture, finishing long and spicy.
Iron Hill Vineyard is planted in an amphitheater style setting whereby different parts of the vineyard get full sun exposure throughout the day. Large rosemary and lavender patches are planted around the vineyard and many large rock piles are scattered in and around the vines. From the top of the vineyard is a panoramic view of the town of Sonoma.
