"The 2014 Twist of Fate Mourvèdre from Paso Robles, is 100% Mourvèdre aged 16 months in 600-liter puncheons with 100% whole clusters. It hails from a vineyard that long-time readers have probably seen before in this publication-Alta Colina. Loads of blueberry and raspberry fruit, floral notes, medium to full body, good spice, earth and light tannin are all present in this impressively well-endowed, Mediterranean tasting wine that is meant to be drunk in its first 4-5 years of life. Like most Mourvèdres, it hides its 15.2% alcohol brilliantly. Drink it over the next 5-6 years."
Alta Colina Vineyard in Paso Robles is a great hillside vineyard that produced fruit with a real Rhône feel. At 1700 feet, the 55 degree slopes are stressed well producing a deep, dark wine, that like a wild animal, you try to tame.
Mourvèdre is one of Jeff's passion. It is dark, gamey, earthy, funky, and just purely intoxicating. This grape produces the truffles of wine.
