2014 Rockpile Vineyard Syrah 'Haley'
2014 Rockpile Vineyard Syrah 'Haley'
Sustainably Farmed Vineyard - This wine is name after Jeff & Alexandra's daughter

Minerality is the backbone, not tannins.  Black cherry, blackberry,  and roasted earth are the hallmarks of this wine.  It's never over the top, more Hermitage-like.

Why This Wine?

Named for my youngest daughter, this wine comes from two different blocks. One produces the elegance and finesse and the other, the structure and depth of this wine. Together, they are the perfect balance. Intensely dark ruby red purple in color, it will stain the glass as you swirl it.

Aromas of black cherry, toasted brioche, white flowers, lavender, violets, savory notes of wild herbs and charcuterie. A mouth coating, classic Rockpile mineral structure and texture hits the front palate. Its focus on black cherry and hints of freshly crushed green and red peppercorns give way to a giving midpalate and long finish. A true reflection of my Haley’s personality.

Vineyard Information

At 2010 ft. elevation, our vineyard sites that we source from are rocky, and stressed. This gives me amazing fruit to make our Rockpile Vineyard Syrahs.

Tasting Notes
Multi-faceted and structured with minerality, not tannins. Robust black cherry and blackberry notes with cassis that soars from the glass.
97 Pts Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate "The 2014 Syrah Haley from Rockpile is 100% Syrah aged 16 months in different sized French barrels. Thirty perccent whole clusters were used. This is more structured, mineral-dominated and masculine than the So Serine, which is a quintessential, elegant, feminine, but super-rich style of Syrah. This is also rich, but more virile, backward and needing several years of bottle age. This full-bodied classic should drink well for 10-15 years and readers should approach it like they would an Hermitage from France's Northern Rhône Valley."
Vineyard Notes
Two specific blocks of 470 Syrah selection are used to create our 100% Syrah from Rockpile Vineyard. Block 1 is heavier in granite and more rocky with larger rocks which add structure and finesse. Block 2 is comprised of more gravel and clay loam which adds body, and a smaller berry selection is intense, deep, and rich. Soils: Granite, loam, clay quartz - granite adds a mineral backbone to weight that clay creates in the wines.
Production Notes
40% whole cluster, de-stemmed, not crushed, open top fermenters, punch downs 5 x day
Winemaker Notes
Backbone of this wine is the minerality not tannins. Dark roasted earth, black cherry and blackberry are hallmarks of this wine which is more Hermitage like but never over the top.
