2016 Cassata Vineyard Zinfandel
2016 Cassata Vineyard Zinfandel
Bio-sustainable, Organic Vineyard - Bumper Crop BOGO

A deep dark abyss of color; aromas of steak tartar with freshly cracked red and black peppercorns and black and blue fruits compote, wild Herbes de Provence carrying aromatics in the end. The palate is full bodied, lush and succulent. Blackberry jam and savory notes are the main focus, but dark chocolate and mission figs fill out the incredible finish.

Wine Profile
95 Pts Jeb Dunnuck Mostly destemmed and brought up in 25% new French oak, the 2016 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard is one of the riper, more rounded, sexy wines in the lineup. Cassis, black raspberries, toasted spice, graphite, and hints of baking spices all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, powerful effort that stays beautifully balanced and elegant on the palate. It's an incredibly completely, voluptuous wine to drink over the coming 8-10 years. 93 Pts Wine Advocation Wine Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the 2016 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard opens with some reductive aromas that dissipate fairly quickly, segueing to peach and apricot jam, blackberry pie, sweet spices, pipe tobacco, turned earth, graphite and savory herbs with red fruit sparks. Full-bodied, it's dense and rich in the mouth with intense, minerally fruits, fine, grainy tannins and lip-smacking freshness, finishing very long. Enthusiast 90 Pts From a well-known old-vine site for Zinfandel, this wine shows the prowess of other varieties within its ground. Thick, leathery and tart, it retains plenty of acidity within a core of full-powered earth and stems. The richness is complemented by seasonings of white and black pepper. Conn Guide 93 Pts Fans of Jeff Cohn's wines may well prefer this bottling to the Iron Hill effort because this one has the "swaggering, swashbuckling" personality that is most often associated with the leaders of Mr. Cohn's parade. It is deep and extracted with dense blackberryish fruit accented by notes of black plum, dark roasted coffee and burnt chocolate all in service to its remarkable central fruit. That it has sinew and a touch of latter palate heat is to be expected, yet, when served with a well-seasoned lamb shank or something of that ilk, it shines even now and will only get better and better for up to a decade to come. Reviewed: January 2019
Wine Spectator 93 Pts Polished and powerful, with expressive black raspberry, espresso and baking spice flavors that take on richness toward well-groomed tannins. Drink now through 2026. –TF
