Jeff Cohn Cellars

2013 Domaine des Chirats Rockpile Vineyard Syrah
2013 Domaine des Chirats Rockpile Vineyard Syrah

Yves and Jeff decided to use the oldest block of Rockpile Vineyard to product this stunning single vineyard Syrah.  A harmonious balance of tannins, acidity, concentrated black fruits, and roasted Herbs de Provence yield to a bold and lengthy finish.

Tasting Notes
This wine is dark, with hues of red and purple that are opaque in saturation. Aromatics of wild herbs stimulate the sense as you meander to a sweet nose o black cherry, blackberries, cassis, and liquid minerals.
95 Pts Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate "One special cuvée that Jeff Cohn does with the famous Northern Rhône winemaker Yves Cuilleron, called Domaine Des Chirats, is Syrah from the Rockpile Vineyard. The 2013 Syrah Domaine Des Chirats Rockpile Vineyard, which apparently they have made together, is a sensational effort. This is stunning stuff. Black/purple in color, its gorgeous blackberry fruit, floral notes, super-supple tannins, multi-layered texture, and an opulent, full-bodied finish make for a profound glass of Syrah from this special AVA in Sonoma. Drink it over the next decade or more."
Vineyard Notes
The Chapoutier suitcase selection is the oldest planting of Syrah at Rockpile. It's not the darkest or the biggest, but it is the most complex. At 2,010 ft. elevation with 20 year old vines, this wine is not French, not California, but purely "Rockpile Syrah." Domaine des Chirats translates from Northern Rhone to simply, "home of the pile of rocks."
