Nun's Canyon Vineyard
Moon Mountain, Sonoma
The 60 to 80 year old vines from the organic Nun's Canyon produce a Zinfandel with some Grenache-like attributes. The skeletal Red Hill clay loam gives the wine a richness on the palate. These head-trained vines are believed to be Italian planted vineyards so the actual selection or clone is not known. At 1400 ft. elevation, the fruit paves the way for a wine that is more reminiscent of a Southern Rhône in both aromatics and texture. The resulting wine is very lush, opulent and elegant but with the bramble of Zinfandel.
