Nun's Canyon Vineyard
Moon Mountain, Sonoma
The 60 to 80 year old vines from Nun's Canyon produce a Zinfandel with some Grenache-like attributes. The skeletal Red Hill clay loam gives the wine a richness on the palate. These head trained vines are believed to be Italian planted vineyards so the actual selection or clone is not known. At 1400 ft. elevation, the fruit paves the way for a wine that is more reminiscent of a Southern Rhône in both aromatics and texture. The resulting wine is very lush, opulent and elegant but with the bramble of Zinfandel.
