2014 The Impostor
2014 The Impostor

Its decidedly mixed cépage might suggest that this one is a little more than an inchoate colleciton of leftovers, but nothing could be farther from the truth, and, despite its curious name, there is nothing phony or fraudulent about it. A glorious blend of 54% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, 11% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre, 5% Alicante Bouschet, 4% Grenache, 4% Carignane and 1% Viognier.  A fan favorite from vintage to vintage.

Tasting Notes
The palate is loaded with mouth filling Christmas spice and Herbes de Provence floating in and out of the ultra sweet mid-palate and ripe tannin finish.
92 Pts Connoisseurs' Guide ~ A full and deeply satisfying wine of surprising richness and range and while it earns high marks for its concentration, very keen fruit and carefully fit oak, it earns even more for its structure and effortless sense of control. It is far from reserved but will unfold further and reveal more with age, and we see it steadily growing for another half-decade and more.
"...It is straightforward, meaty, rather like a straightforward Cotes-du-Rhone, with a dark ruby color, a nice savory mouthfeel, but no the nuances and compelling depth of his other wines." Robert M. Parker, Jr
