A very giving wine in every sense of the word, but one that will need time in the bottle or be decanted to really allow this wine to unfold its magic elixir. Jeff Cohn
96 Pts Wine Advocate,
The 2015 Syrah So Serine Rockpile Vineyard is deep garnet-purple in color with amazing intensity of crushed blackberries, black cherries and warm plums with touches of Indian spices, violets, Provence herbs and charcuterie. The palate is full-bodied and exquisitely balanced offering fine-grained tannins and great freshness with a very long, multilayered finish.
98 Pts Jeb Dunnuck From the Rockpile Vineyard, the tiny production 2015 Syrah So Serine is one of the gems in this rockstar lineup. Brought up all in new French oak, it offers a massive bouquet of smoked black fruits, rendered bacon fat, spring flowers, and wet river rock. It's deep, opulent, and seamless on the palate, with full body, a weightless texture, remarkable purity, and blockbuster length. For a wine of this intensity and size, it stays light, elegant, and perfectly balanced. Don't miss it!
The Serine selection from this vineyard site is so Northern Rhone in what it offers in the final wine. Think of Hermitage in intensity, and Cote-Rotie in elegance. At 2010 ft. elevation Jeff says "Syrah at high elevations and rocky soils are a match made in heaven."
Once again this selection of Syrah, which is known as Serine in the Northern Rhone has produced a wine that is a Menage a trois of aromas and flavors that one finds only in the elegance of Cote-Rotie, the intensity of Hermitage and the pure essence of site from Rockpile.
The bud wood originates from Les Grand Places vineyard in Cote-Rotie and was brought to our Rockpile vineyard via a suitcase. Serine is considered the oldest selection of Syrah in Cote-Rotie. Thus the name So Serine came to be! I always feel this to be one of our most complex wines.
