Jeff Cohn Cellars

2016 Pure Yum
2016 Pure Yum

A sensory overload that needs to be tried for sure. Aromatically this wine goes in so many directions but seems to come to a true focus in the end.  Starting with savory notes, blackberries, raspberries, black currants and dark chocolate. The palate echoes in its flavors, but with a little more of the red raspberries taking the lead in this full bodied wine that not just fills the palate, but truly caresses it. This wine is as sensual as they come and yes,  it is Pure Yum!

Tasting Notes
As deep and drawing to the aromas as the Syrah makes this wine, the Grenache pulls it from the depths and lifts the nose of this wine to intoxicating heights. A true mesmerizing mouthful of wine. From the black cherry and chocolate notes with raspberry preserves to the briar patch/anise component this wine takes you from one experience to another.
94 Pts Editors' Choice This expertly blends 67% Syrah with 33% Grenache into a blockbuster package of full-bodied flavor and balanced brightness, melding together sanguine meaty tones with an underlying richness of blueberry pie and graham cracker. Velvety smooth, it packs a memorably delicious punch. 92 Pts Jeb Dunnuck The 2016 Pure Yum comes from Sonoma County and is a blend of 67% Syrah and 33% Grenache that was 70% destemmed and spent 18 months in neutral barrels. This darker fruited, spicy red has plenty of intensity, a complex, spicy, forest floor character, a hint of sweet earth, ripe tannins, and a great finish. As with all Jeff's wines, it delivers ample character and intensity while staying fresh and lively. 92 Pts Wine Spectator Plump, with gutsy fruit and just enough polish to make it sing, offering distinctive blackberry, garrigue and smoky pepper flavors that finish with broad-shouldered tannins. Syrah and Grenache. Drink now through 2023. 222 cases made.—T.F. 93 Pts The 2016 #PureYum is a blend of 67% Syrah and 33% Grenache. Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the nose opens with chocolate and soft menthol aromas accented by cracked pepper, fried thyme and sage, loamy earth and game meats scents with tricolored fruits at the core. In the mouth, it's full-bodied, bold and dense with a firm, pleasantly chewy frame and great freshness on the long, intense, savory finish.
Conn Guide Here, again, is a highly extracted effort that fits right in with its maker's penchant for no-holds-barred ripeness, yet, as is the case with most of the wines in the Jeff Cohn portfolio, it piles richness upon richness with juicy, deeply drawn fruit to spare. Sophistication is not its strength nor is nuanced nicety, but it will prove a most welcome match with appropriately rich, rib-sticking fare over the course of the next four or five years.
