2017 Silver Eagle Syrah
2017 Silver Eagle Syrah
Sustainably Farmed Vineyard

PROFOUND is the best way to describe this deeply colored wine that comes from the coolest of sites on the estate vineyard of the Valdez family. Vibrant and fresh, smelling this wine reminds me of walking through a patch of wild herbs and brush in the South of France. Then the black/red raspberry notes intermingle with blackberry/cassis, a touch of Worchestershire and soy sauce notes and reminds me of the Northern Rhone. The use of 60% whole cluster this year brought out an exoticness to the palate. Full-bodied and rich, this wine is a multi-layered experience. Sweet black fruits, grilled meats, roasted herbs and a glycerol feel to this palate makes the wine so easy to enjoy now, but trust me, it has the structure for the ages.

Tasting Notes
93+ Pts Jeb Dunnuck - Coming from the Russian River Valley, the 2017 Syrah Silver Eagle Vineyard is terrific, showing lots of plum and blackberry fruits, notes of peppery herbs, game, violets, and scorched earth, full-bodied richness, and ripe, present tannins. It needs a year to integrate some tannins but has the palate to evolve for 10-12 years. 92 Pts Wine Advocate - The 2017 Syrah Silver Eagle Vineyard has an inky color and aromas of cassis with notes of tar, potting soil, dried thyme and floral perfume. The full-bodied palate is powerful and chalky but a bit mute at this stage, with just enough freshness on the finish. Give it more time in bottle.
91 Pts Wine Spectator Floral blueberry and licorice accents are laced with smoky beef and pepper flavors, gathering structure and tension toward fine-grained tannins. Best from 2021 through 2030. — TF
Vineyard Notes
Situated in the rolling hills north of West Sonoma County on the border of the Green Valley and Sonoma Coast Appellations, Silver Eagle Vineyard sits well above the valleys of the Russian River, offering its vines a respite from the thick fog that often covers those below. Consistent daytime sun and heat combine with the cool nights from the nearby ocean to build this site’s signature terroir. The vines are tended by the Valdez family, whose passion for the grapevine and cultivation underscore what results from vision, determination and a good attitude.
