A dark ruby, almost black cherry color with a concentrated nose of blackberry, olive, cinnamon stick, clay pot, freshly cracked white peppercorn and white flowers. Exotic on the front palate with a black forest flavor profile that flows into a full bodied mid palate that highlights more peppery / savory notes into a lengthy finish.
Maggie's was one of my favorite vineyards I worked with while the winemaker at Rosenblum Cellars. So, when my, my old boss, friend, and consulting partner, Kent Rosenblum called me to see if I was interested in making a few tons from this historic vineyard, I was not only honored, but also eager to put my Rhone-centric winemaking spin of on it. In the end, this wine turned out so very Southern Rhône in its style. I know I made Kent proud with this one. I just wish he was here to share a bottle with me.
Planted in 1901, Maggie’s Vineyard is among the oldest vineyards in Sonoma Valley. It is a true heritage vineyard. The gnarly, head-trained Zinfandel vines are interplanted with Sémillon, Muscadelle, and Palomino which are heritage white grapes.
