Aromas of black cherry, toasted brioche, white flowers, lavender, violets, savory notes of wild herbs and charcuterie. A mouth coating, classic Rockpile mineral structure and texture hits the front palate. Its focus on black cherry and hints of freshly crushed green and red peppercorns give way to a giving midpalate and long finish.
132 cases produced. Will age effortlessly in the Cohn Zone: drink now - 2040.

It was important to me to make a special wine for my youngest daughter. She is an incredibly talented artist, incredibly smart, and loves adventure. She is also hardheaded and stubborn. She has a softer side and a harder side, so does this wine. One produces the elegance and finesse and the other, the structure and depth of this wine. Together, they are the perfect balance. Intensely dark ruby red purple in color, it will stain the glass as you swirl it. A true reflection of my Haley’s personality.
Vineyard: Rockpile, sustainably farmed, vines planted in 2000
Been making Rockpile Syrah since 2001. There is a magnetic force in this vineyard that pulls you in, and you feel that something amazing will be produced. These wines are as close to Hermitage Rouge as you will get.
Vinification: 100% Syrah
The fruit is hand-picked then cold-soaked. I gently foot-stomp the fruit of which 30% is whole cluster, the rest is whole berry and de-stemmed. None is crushed. The wine goes through open-top, then 100% Malolactic fermentation and aged 18 months in large-format 80% new French oak and 20% neutral French oak barrels.

96 The Wine Advocate, Erin Brooks — The 2018 Syrah Haley is a stunning Syrah from 25-year-old vines in the Rockpile vineyard (2,010 feet elevation) made with 40% whole cluster and aged 18 months in 80% new French oak. Deep ruby-purple, it is deeply scented with pure violet, iron, charcuterie and rich cassis, with a full-bodied but rounded and fresh palate that is incredibly layered, long and pure. It deserves another 3-5 years in bottle and has a long life in the cellar ahead if you enjoy a mature Syrah.
95 Jeb Dunnuck — Deep purple-hued, with a meaty, rich, powerful bouquet of smoked blackberries, ground pepper, and some meaty, spicy nuances, the 2018 Syrah Rockpile Vineyard Haley hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a ripe, concentrated, yet focused texture, building tannins, and a gorgeous finish. This rich, full-throttle beauty comes up just a tad short on elegance, but it sure brings the fruit, opulence, and texture without being heavy or over the top. It will evolve nicely for a good decade.
93 Wine Spectator — Bold and plump, with jammy black cherry and blueberry flavors that explode with smoky black pepper accents and grilled fennel notes that race along a zesty finish. Drink now through 2029.
