"One never knows"
An intense dark brick red / black color with aromatics of blue / black fruits and brandied cherries, intermingle with wild game, charcuterie, black licorice and other savory notes. As incredible as the aromatics are, the flavors and mouthfeel of this wine are on another level.
The full, over-the-top front palate is loaded with black cherry, wild herbs, and wild mushrooms. The mid palate and finish seem to start and go on forever. Twist shows aspects of demi-glace of both beef and lamb and extra dose of rosemary, sage and tarragon. Exotic, seductive, and hedonistic.

I love Mourvèdre, and I love the wines of Bandol, but I wanted to create something seductive and a touch kinky — leather and lace. Thus, making this wine with 100% whole cluster was the answer. Mourvèdre is already very dark and mysterious, but them I add the major savory component of the stems and this wine is out-of-control! I made this wine to make your senses go crazy.
Yes, this vintage is epic because it is made from the one and only historic Rossi Ranch together with the one and only viticulturist, Phil Coturri, aka "Mr. Organic". Phil's rehabilitation efforts have paid off to produce magic! How could I not want to work with the fruit from this vineyard?
I started Jeff Cohn Cellars with the help of my mother, Iris. One adorns the label as a tribute to her.
Appellation: Sonoma Valley
Vineyard: Rossi Ranch, organic, vines re-planted 2012
Originally planted by legendary vintner, Carlo Rossi in 1910, Rossi Ranch is steeped in Sonoma Valley history. In 2012, my friend Phil resurrected its old vines and today, together we make magic!

The fruit is hand-picked then cold-soaked. I gently foot-stomp the fruit of which 100% is whole cluster, the rest is whole berry and de-stemmed. None is crushed. The wine goes through open-top, then 100% Malolactic fermentation and aged 18 months in a single large format 100% new French oak barrel.
As a winemaker, you would think this wine would show tons of savory notes and more new oak nuances. In fact, due to the pure concentration of this wine, these components take a back seat to the purity of the fruit and the vineyard.

95 Jeb Dunnuck — Coming from the Rossi Ranch Vineyard in Sonoma and all Mourvèdre, the 2018 Mourvèdre Twist of Fate sports a semi-opaque purple/ruby color to go with meaty, spicy, classic Mourvèdre notes of mulled red and black fruits, wood smoke, tree bark, sandalwood, and peppery herbs. It's a remarkable Mourvèdre offering full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. It's another wine from Cohn that will have two decades of longevity.
94 Wine Advocate, Erin Brooks — The 100% Mourvèdre 2018 Twist of Fate was made with 100% whole clusters and aged in 100% new French 600-liter barrels. Medium ruby, it has seductive aromas of iron, violets, blackcurrants, earth, pepper and dried meats. The full-bodied palate is firm and mineral-driven, with intense, spicy dark fruits and a long, layered finish. It’s an elegant expression this vintage and deserves another couple of years in bottle.
